Updated Airport Closure Information: The Caribbean

(Updated Sept. 22)

Hurricane Maria has caused numerous airport closures and widespread flight disruptions in the Caribbean region as of Sept. 22. Providenciales International Airport (PLS) in Turks and Caicos has closed while the system passes near the islands.

In Puerto Rico, San Juan Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU) has reopened for military and relief flights, as well as some limited commercial air traffic. Aguadilla Rafael Hernandez Airport is open; however, most commercial flights have been canceled through Sept. 23. Mercedita International Airport (PSE) remains closed.

Dominica’s Douglas-Charles Airport (DOM) remains closed; the highway that connects the airport to Roseau, the capital, was heavily damaged by landslides. Dominica’s smaller Canefield Airport (DCF) reopened Sept. 20 for relief flights only. Saint Martin Grand Case-Esperance Airport is open but servicing only limited commercial flights.

Most airports in the Dominican Republic have reopened and have resumed commercial operations, including Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) and Santiago de los Caballeros Cibao International Airport (STI).
