Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines’ Symphony of the Seas, which is set to debut in April 2018 with its inaugural season in Europe, will come into service as the largest cruise ship in the world. With 16 guest decks, the ship will be able to carry 5,500 guests at double occupancy in 2,774 staterooms. When it enters service, Symphony will sail an itinerary that includes Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca, Spain; Provence, France; and Florence/Pisa, Rome and Naples, Italy. It will then head to the Caribbean in November 2018, where it will homeport out of Miami and sail seven-night Caribbean Voyages.
In becoming the world’s largest cruise ship, Symphony will be dethroning the third vessel in the Oasis Class series, Harmony of the Seas. Symphony will share many of the same features as Harmony, which is about 1,700 tons larger than the first two Oasis Class ships, Oasis of the Seas and Allure, and offers attractions that aren’t on the earlier vessels. Among the amazing features on Symphony:
Ultimate Abyss. Heralded as the most thrilling attraction ever conceived for a cruise ship, Ultimate Abyss is comprised of two swirling slides and drops nine stories from near the top of the vessel down to one of its lowest decks.
Laser Tag. Symphony has the largest laser tag arena at sea, located in Studio B, a multipurpose performance and activity space that also doubles as the ship’s ice skating rink. It’s bots versus aliens in a battle for the last planet. So grab your blaster, choose a side and gear up for a stellar glow-in-the-dark time.
Ultimate Family Suite.. This massive, two-level suite will include a kids-only bedroom — with slide access to the living room, no less — a separate adult’s room, a floor-to-ceiling LEGO wall, an air-hockey table, a 3D movie theater-style TV room — with a popcorn machine, of course, and video games — and a wraparound balcony with a full-size whirlpool and pool table.
Activities Galore. One thing you’ll never be on Symphony is bored! Choose from classic carnival games at the new Boardwalk Arcade; dive into the Splashaway Bay kids’ water park with two FlowRider surf simulators; five pools including the Solarium, an adults-only retreat; the Vitality at Sea Spa with thermal suite and an extensive treatment menu; ten whirlpools, two of them cantilevered whirlpools overlooking the ocean; two rock-climbing walls, each 43 feet high; a Zip line, nine decks in the air and 82 feet across; a state-of-the-art Fitness Center; an ice-skating rink & a full-sized basketball court. When you’re done having fun have a drink at the Bionic Bar and a stroll through the tree-lined streets of Central Park.
