Strike Snarls London Airport Commute

Travelers in London face a difficult week as rail services to both Gatwick and Heathrow are significantly impacted by a rail worker strike and maintenance schedules. Gatwick Airport issued a statement warning travelers to “allow plenty of extra time to get to the airport”. It said: “We are expecting significant disruption to rail services to and from Gatwick on 13, 14 and 16 December due to a train drivers strike. There will be no Southern trains and reduced Gatwick Express services. Please plan your journey in advance and allow plenty of extra time to get to the airport. You may want to consider alternatives methods of transport.” Passengers using the London Underground service to Heathrow also face disruption with the continued delays on the Piccadilly Line as trains are taken out of service for urgent repairs. With rail options for commuters cancelled expect traffic on nearby roads to be more congested. (Buying Business Travel, The Independent)
