Located in the South Caribbean, just above South America is Curacao. It’s one of the Leeward (“ABC”) Islands, along with Aruba and Bonaire. Curaçao has a warm, sunny climate year round. The average temperature is about 81°F. Cooling trade winds blow constantly from the east, strongest in the spring months, and best of all it’s outside of the Hurricane Zone so you don’t have to worry about those visitors.
An autonomous country within the Kingdom of The Netherlands, the center of Curacao is Willemstad, an UNESCO World Heritage site with some amazing examples of colorful Dutch colonial architecture, museums and great restaurants. Getting around the island really requires a rental car. (There’s no Uber or Lyft there.) But since everyone drives on the right side, that’s a plus. For activities you can swim with turtles and dolphins, go cave exploring, ride in a submarine and go deep sea fishing!
