Taiwan has declared a non-working “typhoon day” for Taipei as Tropical Storm Dujuan is on track to make landfall along the north-central coast of Taiwan by early this evening. Heavy rainfall has already affected parts of the island, with more expected as the storm’s force increases. Dujuan is expected to be a powerful typhoon, with the equivalent strength of a Category 3 hurricane; wind speeds could reach 130 mph. As the storm passes through, Taipei will probably feel its impact and experience some structural damage; power outages are also possible. The storm is forecast to move towards eastern China over the next 24-48 hours, affecting China’s Fujian Province.
